Welcome to the Historical Society of Old Newbury
“The Hist”, as it is known locally, is a community treasure –- a campus of historic buildings and gardens, collections representing 300 years of history that tell the stories of Newbury, Newburyport, and West Newbury, a reference library, and a cultural center for programs and events.
2014 marks the 250th anniversary of Newburyport, and we are celebrating with tours of our stunning Federal period museum. Hear the stories of shipmasters and merchants, clockmakers and silversmiths, stroll through our restored gardens, and see the Perkins Engraving Plant where early currency for Massachusetts was printed.
Our 35th Anniversary Garden Tour will be held on June 7 -8 featuring private gardens of the Newburys, and we will again sponsor our popular plant sale at 98 High Street. You can now purchase tickets for the tour on-line.
Watch our calendar for a full listing of programs and events. We look forward to welcoming you to Newburyport and the rich history of our community.
