Welcome to the Historical Society of Old Newbury
Historical societies can act as the front porch of a community. It is where visitors often go first to orient themselves before exploring the area. This way what is seen about town can more fully be appreciated.
What “The Hist” offers is a unique experience for our guests. Unlike the roped-off or glass-encased exhibitions of some of our larger counterparts in modern facilities, our docents will lead you through a portion of the 22-room Federal- period mansion with 11 winding staircases brimming with 200-year-old treasures as you retrace the same steps as the sea captain / merchant of an earlier place in time. A docent-led tour of the “Hist” is a safari as opposed to a zoo!
We enjoy serving the public through tours, research, lectures and exhibitions and invite you to visit our museum, garden and grounds.
