The photography collection of the Historical Society has proven itself to be a very important asset to our special collections library. It is comprised of daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes, glass negatives, cabinet photos and modern digital images.
To date, our photography collection has grown to over 14,000 images specifically focused on the greater Newburyport area. We receive hundreds of inquiries throughout the year from Society members and the public alike for a photo of a particular home, building, streetscape, or individual in its collection.
Whether you are writing a book, researching your family’s genealogy or looking to reproduce “something local” to hang in your living room, the photography collection is an area of the special collection that you will want to investigate.
